Reiki
Reiki is a natural form
of healing therapy. It is applied through non-invasive gentle touch
"laying on hands". This form of therapy aims to increase energy levels
and promote relaxation, wellbeing and healing.
Reiki is based on the idea that there is a universal (or source) energy
that supports the body's innate healing abilities. If one's "life force
energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If
it is high, however, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Practitioners seek to
access this energy, allowing it to flow to the body and facilitate
healing.
The word Reiki is made
of two Japanese words - Rei which means "spirit" and Ki which is "life
force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force
energy".
While Reiki is
spiritual in nature, it is not a religion; there is nothing you have to
believe in to use or receive Reiki.
Current Reiki practice
can be traced to the spiritual teachings of Mikao Usui in Japan during
the early 20th century.
Some of the many
beneficial effects include
- relaxation
- feelings of peace
- feeling secure
- feeling refreshed
- and wellbeing
It also works in
conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve
side effects and promote recovery.
Practitioners with
appropriate training may perform Reiki from a distance, that is, on
clients who are not physically present in the office or clinic.
